Hi Singers,
Thank-you for another great rehearsal! I want to thank each and every one of you for showing up each week to rehearsal. For practicing, for making it to your sectionals, and most importantly for your willingness to learn and sing together. I am having such a great time conducting for you, and you all teach ME something every week! I appreciate all of you, and the time you dedicate to our choir more than you know :)
Your sound comes from your BODY, not your throat, and you need to be in alignment, starting with your feet and upwards, to give your body the best chance to make the sound you want. If you feel hoarse and tired in your throat area after rehearsal, it means you were not using your breath support from your belly well enough. Think "Yoga Breathing", lots of space in your belly, open rib cage. When you look down at your music you have a tendency to bend at the neck and this alters your sound. Position your music so it takes very little movement to look at me.
Every time you take a breath think "surprise", this will naturally allow you to breathe from down below, rather than up in the chest where you will run out of air quickly.
For this week on practicing, and at your sectionals, work on Sure on this Shining Night, and Silent Night ....you just need to build your confidence on your entrances and you will have it. For the high notes, you have to remember these notes resonate in your face (the mask) and you just need breath support and energy (fast air) to get these out. Don't hold back when you have a high note, and support it from your belly.
Use the practice parts found here:

If you need anything else for practicing or music you need, please don't hesitate to ask!
Stay healthy and be sure to take time for rest in the next few weeks, you need your energy for the shows!
Happy Singing,
Sabrina
